Dental Clinic Platform — 2 Brands, 1 Admin, +180% Bookings
A Budapest dental clinic network operated under 2 different brand names: a premium general clinic and an orthodontic specialist. They wanted to manage both sites from one admin panel, with their own custom UX components. 3 months, 3 custom WordPress plugins, +180% online bookings.
The problem
Our client operates two different brands: a premium general dentistry and an orthodontic specialist sibling brand. The two brands:
- Had separate websites (2× hosting, 2× admin, 2× content management)
- Every small change (e.g. opening-hours update) meant 2× work for the marketing team
- Before-after photo quality was inconsistent — screenshots saved from Instagram
- No video content — competitors had already buried them on Instagram Reels
- Online booking was a Calendly embed, brand-neutral (jarring)
The solution — dual-brand admin
We built 2 separate front-ends controllable from a single WordPress admin account:
- Intelligent theme switcher plugin: a meta field on each Post/Page decides which brand it belongs to. The page auto-switches to the matching design.
- Shared content: common articles (e.g. "what you can't eat after surgery") can be published to both brands at once with a checkbox.
- Brand-specific content: non-shared items (e.g. pricing) can be filtered by brand in the admin panel.
3 custom plugins
Plugin #1: Before-after slider
Before-after photos are the strongest conversion lever for dentists. Market plugins were too heavy or slow. We built our own:
- Touch-friendly drag (mobile-ready)
- Lazy-loading (only when scrolled into view)
- WebP + AVIF format automatically
- 25KB JS + CSS combined (market competitors: 80-150KB)
- Result: Lighthouse 100/100, Core Web Vitals green
Plugin #2: Video carousel
YouTube/Vimeo embeds were too heavy (500KB iframe + tracking per video). Custom lightweight:
- Thumbnail first, video loads on click
- YouTube Shorts-style 9:16 mobile view
- Auto-scroll to next video
- Showcases the clinical workflow
Plugin #3: Intelligent theme switcher
The key: one click in admin switches brand A to brand B. All changes auto-apply there.
Design considerations in the dental segment
- Pastel, calming colors (no flashy accents)
- Professional photos of doctors, not stock imagery
- Dedicated "First visit" page (patients are nervous) — this alone delivered +40% booking lift
- Customer reviews with name and photo (anonymous reviews = inexplicable suspicion)
- NAIH-compatible cookie banner, because healthcare = strict GDPR
Result — 3 months in
- +180% online bookings — 45/month → 126/month
- Average booking time cut from 4 min to 2 min — due to UX
- Organic traffic +65% — from good speed and on-page SEO
- 50% admin work reduction for marketing — 1 instead of 2 brands managed in one place
What we learned
- WordPress is still worth it — if the client wants to manage content themselves. The key: well-written, maintained custom plugins.
- Performance = trust — on healthcare sites, slow loading directly creates suspicion. Lighthouse 100/100 isn't luxury, it's baseline.
- Dual-brand architecture pays off if a company runs 2+ related brands. The 2 weeks invested in single admin pays back many times in 2-3 years.
